Winding Down: Touring Akureyri

Today, our tour guide was one of the goalkeepers for the local football teams. Total bro. Although I was a little perturbed after he noted that he'd come to pick us up after taking his driving exam and nearly failing!

At any rate, we set out to see waterfalls and nature and shit like that. My favorite stop was an area chalk full of geothermal activity. It felt otherworldly once more, which explains why the area was used for the filming of movies like Oblivion and Prometheus.

Apparently folks like Bono have also dropped by the town to do a bit of fly fishing. Color me impressed.

Mike and Andrew were also bold enough to try the rotten shark. Based on what I smelled, these guys won't ever be the same again.

It looks like we'll fall short on our quest to eat Puffin due to some foolish government restrictions. But tonight we will dine once more before setting out for the airport at the crack of dawn.

PS - I ate snow and it was delicious. #nofilter

Iceland: The Journey Continues

Well - we just finished up a day's worth of driving. After waking up at 5:40 AM, we journeyed to the airport before sunlight broke. Once there, we grabbed our rental car and Pappa Bear got the mission underway.

After accidentally embarking upon an hour-long hike to a cliff through other worldly terrain, we were able to confirm that there are indeed cliffs in Iceland. #firstworldstatus

Over the next 6 hours, we stopped periodically to check out waterfalls and awesome shit like that. We also made a pit stop at the disrespectful volcano that disrupted tons of air travel back in 2010. This stop was funny because it was accompanied by a sassy sign from a farm at the base of the volcano touting its awesomeness. Good for them.

Now we are sitting in a remote hotel room with a window that stares out at a glacier. That's legit. And as a bonus, the hotel guy informed us that a night watchman stays up ALL night to see if he detects Northern Lights activity. This could make up for Saturday's epic failure of a Northern Lights tour.

Hope to grab some pictures in a few hours!

PS - we are passing time listening to Hannibal Buress instead of watching Icelandic talk shows. Pappa Bear knew exactly what we needed.

Made it to Iceland!

Immediately got off flight and took a $150 cab ride into Reykjavik!!! Absurd.

After grabbing breakfast at the Gray Kitten with Mike and Andrew, we came home to take a quick nap. Drill Sergeant Mike made sure we were up on time for our 6 hr tour.

We saw Golden Falls, Geysir and a crater that Bjork once performed in. Prepping for dinner! More updates soon...
